12 – Hallelujah! Christ Arose! Review of “Resurrecting” by Elevation Worship and “Death was Arrested” by North Point InsideOut

Psalm of the Week – Psalm 12

Intro

Starting things off, we briefly discuss two fairly popular songs and ask some questions of the lyrics.

Through Your Eyes

You love me even when I fall apart

I can’t explain it

That’s just who you are

Don’t want perfection

You just want my heart

Britt Nicole

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Leviticus 19:1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.

Matthew 5:48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Even Then

When the days up ahead look a little bit brighter

But the grip of the past holds a little bit tighter

I’m reminded Your grace never asks for perfection

Oh I’m restored ’cause I’m Yours and I stand forgiven

Micah Tyler

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Main Topic

Two songs, head to head, but take two approaches to the resurrection story. Both are sensational, but only one is true.

Resurrecting

At issue is the phrase “Our God has robbed the grave.” This is quite problematic and Bryan and Grant tackle it from a number of angles.

Death was Arrested

Death was Arrested has a similar theme, but without calling God a sinner as in the other song.

This song is from North Point, pastored by Andy Stanley. Mr. Stanley has gotten himself in trouble before with phrases like “Unhitching Christianity from the Old Testament.” This gives us pause and we recall a fantastic, good-natured yet serious debate about if we can “unhitch” the OT from Christianity. It also, predictably, brings up a host of quality content from our favorite satire news source.
